The son of a minister and a nurse, I’m constantly trying to find a way to do some good – or at least bring positive messages into my current profession. Gotta try and make Mom and Dad proud.
I grew up around sports and played as much as I could. I went on to play soccer at the University of Virginia, where we won a few national championships and I had my moment as NCAA MVP. I played professionally for a bit too - in Costa Rica and the U.S. - where I earned “tens of dollars” and a lifetime of perspective.
While not financially as rewarding as I may have hoped, my time spent playing sports has been invaluable in terms of the lessons they taught me. I lean on the work ethic, sense of teamwork, and leadership skills I learned from sports every single day in my current life. I’m a firm believer in the idea that the world would be better off if more people played sports.
I care deeply about the work I put into the world, but care less about chasing awards. I’m not sure they bring the sense of fulfillment that I thought they would. I just want to work with good humans, who give an honest effort, and are heading in the same direction. The kinds of teams that make the effort worth it.
